| Personal History | Lily was born in 2371 and grew up on Alpha Eridani II, an Earth Colony with two suns. She was fascinated to learn that not all systems have two suns, and this fascination developed into a love of astronomy as she grew. She loved nature, and often roamed her town and the local countryside unchecked, becoming quite a tomboy. She was only marginal in school, preferring sports to books, but a broken leg in her 10th summer changed her mind. Ordered to rest it for a week, her mother kept her busy by distracting her with her favorite school subject: astronomy. By the end of the summer, she was eschewing rough and tumble games for books about math and science. As she grew older, she learned to balance her time between her studies and her favorite sports, becoming a more rounded person. In her early teens, she began to talk seriously about a career in science, and despite her relatively young age, her parents took her seriously, encouraging her and helping her. When she was 17, she took the entrance exams to both Starfleet Academy and Makropyrios. Although she was accepted to both of them, she joined Starfleet; she wanted to study the stars, and they were the ones best equipped for her to do so. She spent five years at the Academy, graduating with a doctorate in Astrophysics. She was assigned as the astrometrics officer to the USS Artemis. She spent the next five years working her way through the ranks. While she was away at a science conference, the Artemis answered a distress call from a nearby planet. It was being attacked by pirates; in the ensuing battle, many of her friends and colleagues were killed, including her long-term boyfriend Surok. Lily was devastated, and was given a medical leave of absence to work through her feelings of loss. After a few months of counselling and time off, she was reassigned to Starbase Mercury. |
